The Product Description claims that the vinyl neckband is "cool" and "makes pouring the hot beverage easy." On the contrary, if you fill the vessel to the top with hot water, the neckband becomes extremely hot; I had to don an oven mitt to pick it up. Of course, if you only fill the vessel to the bottom of the neckband, the neckband does remain cool enough to touch, but then you only have ~240mL of hot water (roughly 1.2 Cups, or 9oz.). The description says "Holds 2 cups/10 oz."Don't get fooled by the "2 cups" bit and overlook the "10oz." bit, like I did (I read "2 Cups," which is technically 16oz., and figured the "10oz." part was a typo; not so).I bought this product because I like to drink a mug of tea in the morning at work, but it always gets cool before I'm finished; I wanted to be able to warm it up without walking all the way back to the staff kitchen, where the hot water spigot is. If I leave the cover on the vessel, the hot liquid does stay hot longer than it would if I were to just fill a ceramic mug and leave it uncovered, so it usually serves its purpose just fine for me, which is why I gave the product 3 stars. Also, I was worried that the neckband would not survive the dishwasher, but I haven't had a problem so far (always putting it in the top rack), so that's pretty convenient.The box it came in made me laugh; it has a print date of 1984 on the bottom, and based on the yellow tint of the box (and the tape on the box) and the styling of the product photo on the box, it looked like it had been sitting unopened in someone's pantry/cupboard for 20 years. Right out of the box, the interior glass was filthy with what I can only assume was dust, and needed a hot wash before use. But after washing I didn't see any signs that it had been used previously, so I think it was just really old. An unexpected and slightly bizarre experience, but worth a chuckle.
